NIE (Newspapers in Education) are an excellent resource for teachers.  NIE programmes are based firmly on the curriculum and are easily implemented into your classroom plan.  They include Reading Activities , Problem Solving Activities, Critical Thinking Activities and Relevant Information on specific subjects.  All NIEs are in boxes in the Library and can be sourced through the Library Catalogue.  Don't forget next time you are looking for information on a special topic, check these out! Read this book to find out what happens to the little character.  This book will keep a smile on your face for days, and maybe even you will be tempted to repeat little rabbits famous line.

Butterflies in My Stomach and Other School Hazards  by Serge Bloch

A lovely little book to keep or  to give to one of the special people in your life starting on a new adventure.  Simple ink drawings  accompany the great idioms on each page.  “he’d have to talk to the principal because she was the big cheese’ is written beside a simple  drawing of the principal dressed in Swiss cheese.  Perfect for teaching such an abstract concept to young children.

Uni Bound? Students’ Stories of Transition from School to University

 

What an awesome book for those moving into University life.  15 young New Zealanders share their experiences as they look back at their transition from school to  tertiary study. 

The students offer fantastic down to earth  advice and have some great hints to help you get through your individual journey.  The stories are humorous and honest and provide a glimpse at the reality behind all the shiny brochures and television advertisements.
